FAMILY PLANNING: Islam encourages family planning, discourages offsprings limitation, says Sheikh Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara.

The spiritual leader of Qadiriyya sect, Africa Sheikh (Dr.) Qaribullah Nasiru Kabara says family planning is truly permissible in Islam.
Sheikh Qaribullah made the assertion while speaking to members of Kano Family Planning Interfaith Forum, who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Kano.
The Qadiriyya, spiritual leader lamented that family planning is acceptable in Islam by the majority of Muslim leaders, but the only contention is that limiting the number of children is what’s is not acceptable by the majority.
“ Family planning is very important in keeping the health of the mother and her baby, even the family,” he said
He added that “we are going to continue sensitizing our religious leaders and the community to accepts the and practice of childbirth spacing so that, we can have productive, healthy Muslim population full of knowledge and good character.
“Islam doesn’t support the population that cannot add value to Islam and the society at large’ He added.
In addition, the sheikh while commenting on COVID-19 and family planning he added that both are a very important issue which deserved the general public to be regularly enlightened.
In his words, Sheik Qaribullah emphasized that “While COVID-19 pandemic is real and measures must be taken to address it squarely, family planning issue is also a highly important aspect that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
CoronaVirus issue is entirely provisional, while marriages are permanent with us, thus serious attention needed to ensure a healthy and productive household of benefit to society”.
Earlier in his speech The Challenge Initiative State Lead, Musa Abdullahi Sufi, State Program Coordinator express happiness for the warm welcome and befitting reception given to the team.
Sufi was quoted to have said “ We know this house support is tremendous, and we are here to solicit more support in mobilizing communities and Muslim leaders on the importance of Child Birth Spacing.
“Religious leaders are central to the success of any initiatives and you are among those that are already known with passion about health and development of the people of Kano, FP inclusive in Kano, Nigeria and Africa”.he added.
Books and variety of publications were presented to sheikh among which includes: Islamic Perspectives on Family Planning written in Hausa and Ajamii, FP audio-voices, advocacy materials which contained frequently asked questions about family planning etc.
The Co-Chairman of the Kano Family Planning Interfaith Forum Sheik Dr Hafiz Abdullahi emphasized that this visit is encouraging to the forum, as they are motivated to do more.
“With this encouragement, support and motivation receive from sheikh, we are now stronger to face every nook and corners to intensify sensitization to other religious communities leaders and also calling the attention of the government for the provision of quality services’. Dr Hafiz added.
The meeting comprises representatives from Tijjaniya, Izala, Qadiriyya and other religious leaders; at the Qadiriyya domains in Kano.
