MCSN, NCC Partner To Train Nigerian DJs On Copyright Laws And Enforcement

The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN), in collaboration with the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC), is set to host a one-day copyright training session for members of the Deejays Association of Nigeria (DJAN). The session, titled “Training in Copyright Laws and Enforcement Strategies,” will take place at the Lagos Airport Hotel on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The event aims to equip DJs with essential knowledge about the responsible use of musical works, their legal obligations under the Nigerian Copyright Act 2022, and the consequences of copyright infringement.
The training is designed to raise awareness among DJs about the importance of respecting the intellectual property rights of music creators. With the new Act making unauthorized use of copyrighted music a criminal offense, DJs will be sensitized to the legal implications of their actions and the need to operate within the framework of the law.
“DJs play a critical role in the entertainment industry. Without music, there is no entertainment to offer. This training ensures that they understand that the music they use is someone’s intellectual property,” a spokesman for MCSN said.
The society emphasized that the goal is not only to enforce compliance but to foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and sustainability between DJs and music creators.
The session will feature expert presentations by seasoned legal and copyright professionals, including representatives from the NCC, who will provide insights into the Copyright Act, address concerns, and guide attendees on industry best practices.
The event reinforces MCSN and NCC’s commitment to strengthening copyright enforcement and promoting a fair, lawful, and vibrant music ecosystem in Nigeria.
