Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has formally endorsed the hosting of the 2025 edition of the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Lagos, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the growth of the creative industry in Nigeria and across Africa.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this pledge during a courtesy visit by members of the International Committee of AFRIMA and representatives of the African Union Commission (AUC) at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Tuesday. He emphasized that his administration would continue to provide opportunities, hope, and an enabling environment for talents in the entertainment and creative sectors to thrive.

“It was not difficult for us to make entertainment, tourism, and everything in the creative space one of our cardinal objectives,” said the Governor. “The creative industry is a major employer and a powerful tool to tell the African story. Lagos will create the space and business environment for AFRIMA and the creative sector to flourish.”

Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as a city that has given life to countless creatives in music, fashion, and the arts, stating that the state is “strategic and ready” to host AFRIMA 2025.

The leader of the visiting delegation, Ms. Angela Martins, Head of the Culture Department at the African Union, thanked the Lagos State Government for its longstanding support of AFRIMA and expressed hope for continued partnership for the 2025 edition and beyond.

AFRIMA President and Executive Producer, Mr. Mike Dada, revealed that hosting rights for the 2025 event were awarded to Lagos in recognition of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s passion and strategic support for the entertainment industry. He noted that the event would bring together over 1,500 artists and managers, and called for financial and institutional backing to ensure a successful show in November.

“Lagos is the mecca of entertainment in Africa,” Dada said. “We’re looking forward to a dynamic and impactful AFRIMA 2025 with Lagos as our host.”
