The Oyo State Government has thrown its weight behind the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in its efforts to minimise road accidents in the state in the ember months.

The Permanent Secretary on Cabinet Services in Oyo State, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde of the state during the flag off of ember months safety precautions, which held at New Garage Motor Park, Ibadan, stated that the state government, through its agencies, will collaborate with the FRSC to ensure the safety of lives on the roads.

Oni disclosed that the state government has been supporting government agencies on the rehabilitation of major roads in the city.

The Zonal Commander of ACM, Mr. Ojeamiren, while speaking at the flag off, urged commercial bus drivers not to consume alcohol and drugs, while driving to reduce accidents on the roads.

Ojeamiren called on FRSC officials to perform their duties diligently and ensure that they further educate road users on what is expected of them.

As we are in the ember months, I want to assure you that our men are up to the task of safeguarding and protecting motorists and other road users,” he said.

He also sought the support of sister agencies to FRSC in tackling the problems that he said might occur during the ember months and beyond.

Earlier in his welcome address, the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Joshua Adekanye, while speaking on the theme of the programme, “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and Unsafe Tyres To Stay Alive,” urged commercial vehicles owners and road users to prepare well before embarking on any journey, and advised them to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition.

Others, who were represented at the flag off, included the police, army, officers of the correctional centres in the state, other para military agencies and members of the Park Management Committee.
