Over 2,000 residents in Lekki area of Lagos, Ikota and Ajah communities benefitted from the evangelisation and generosity carried out by the Ladies of St. Mulumba Nigeria, Lekki-Sub Council at the weekend where food, bibles, rosaries, catechism books and other items worth over a million naira were distributed freely to an excited individuals that included children, women, widows and the less privileged.

According to the President of the group, Lady Nnenne Ukairo, the programme is a Catholic order made up of wives of the knights and had about three out-stations that serves as a platform . The stations visited are St.Rita out-station, St. Theresa Catholic Church at Ikota and our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Ajah.

Lady Ukairo noted that the body rationalised that a hungry man or woman  needs food before listening to the gospel and like Jesus Christ, it’s a demonstration of goodwill that Jesus loves them.

She expressed happiness at the reception they got adding that the majority of people were excited and were even asking for bibles and other religious items that will aid their worship of God.

The Chairrperson of the Evangelical committee, Lady Ifeoma Okocha-Ojeah, told THISDAY that the gesture is a product of what Jesus admonished Christians to do in Mathew 28v19 and 20, to make disciples of people of all the nation and teaching them to understand the commandments of God.

She added that the outreach also enabled them to reactivate the inactives who are yearning for Christ.

The Vice President of the Ladies of St Mulumba, Lady Theresa Chiejina was visibly excited at the success of the programme. She said: “I feel happy and excited for our experience today. I appreciate all our members for bringing out time from their busy schedules to reach out to others. We all created and dedicated it to spreading the gospel and it’s indeed fulfilling. Our Lord expect us to make good use of our talents, treasure and time in serving the people and propagating the message that can only lead to salvation. We have done our part and the Holy Spirit will continue the rest”.

The President, Lady Ukairo added that it’s a quarterly event and they are more motivated with the impressive outing.

Some of the recipients who spoke to THISDAY were happy and promised to make good use of the items recieved in improving their relationship with their neighbours and with God.

However, it was so obvious that the people really need help especially materially going by the rate at which the large number of food shared, biscuits and other items didn’t really go round as they requested.
