The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the State’s Gov. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to upgrade the Audu Bako College of Agriculture in Danbatta Local Government Area to University.

The assembly made the call on Monday following a motion presented by the Deputy Speaker of the assembly and member representing Makoda Constituency Alhaji Hamisu Chidari.

According to Chidari, the College which was established over 40 years ago has graduated many students which are presently contributing to the development of Agricultural sector in the state and the country.

He added that if the College which is own by the State Government, is upgraded, it will also contribute more in complimenting the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari towards boosting the sector.

Chidari said, “the Institution has 36 courses and seven Faculties offering Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Agriculture. Therefore, there is the need for the upgrade of the College to University”.

According to Chidari, if the College is upgraded to University, it will be the second of its kind in the country after that of Makurdi, in Benue State, and will reduce unemplyment.

Following series of contribution by the legislatures, the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Kabiru Rurum adopted the motion and called on the State Government to intervene.

Similarly, the assembly has called on Ganduje to establish a School of Hygiene in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.

The called followed a motion presented by a member representing Kiru constituency, Alhaji Kabiru Dashi.

According to Dashi, the call was necessary because there is only one School of Hygien in the state, and many of the rural parents can not afford to sponsore their children to the city.

He explained that if established in the area, it will encourage parents to send their children to further their education, especially looking at the large number of people in the area.

Dashi said, “If the school is established in Kiru, at least the residents of many communities will benefit from it, especially from Kiru, Kabo, Karaye and Rogo Local Government Areas”.

The motion was also adopted by the legislatures and called on the State Government to establish the School.
