The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, said a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been nominated to be the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.

During the week, media reports said the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu, has settled for the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs to lead the red chamber.

But the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, after the weekly National Working Committee meeting on Wednesday, said it would decide on the zoning of the leadership positions of the national assembly after consultation with the president-elect.

Dr  Ganduje, while speaking during a meeting with the governor of Cross Rivers State, Ben Ayade, in Calabar on Thursday, said the decision to nominate  Sen. Akpabio was already a done deal.

The meeting also had in attendance the chief of staff to the president,Prof Ibrahim Gambari.

“The senate president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will come from the south-south and it is no other person than the former governor of Akwa Ibom,” he said.

“The uncommon governor, the uncommon minister who is going to be the uncommon president of the senate. So we have resolved that.

“I am giving you assurance, we are waiting for the D-Day that he will be the senate President of Nigeria.”

On his part, Prof Ayade expressed gratitude for the choice of  Sen Akpabio.

“I want to thank you so much for zoning the Senate President to the south-south and to our brother from a neighbouring state who is also part of Cross River state.

“We want to thank you for this great opportunity because our dream of a Bakassi seaport is becoming very real,” the governor said.
