While there are speculation and rumours in town that the Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan has tactically withdrawn from Ogun Governorship race in the 2019 general elections, a group loyal to him has stated that he is still interested in the race.

Chairman of Shagamu Local Government chapter of Yayi Movement and a member of the apex body of Yayi Movement in Ogun State, Alhaji Afolabi Dauda Olokun made it clear in an interview that there is no iota of truth in the rumour.

The rumour had been rife that Senator Olamilekan has decided to dump his governorship aspiration in Ogun state for 2019 preferring instead to go for a second term as senator from Lagos West because of the opposition of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state to his ambition.

Olokun said that there is no truth whatsoever in the speculation as there is no going back for Senator Olamilekan, popular called Yayi, on the Ogun state governorship project.

According to him, “he has not dumped the idea of coming to Ogun state to contest for the governorship seat, he has been on the mission for Ogun state project for the past three years and he has sensitized everybody on it to the level that we are very sure that come 2019 he will become the governor of Ogun state”.

Debunking the rumour that Yayi has decided to run for a second term in Lagos West senatorial district instead of the governorship seat, Olokun said emphatically, “he is not coming back to Lagos, he has done enough in Lagos and he has now decided he would come to Ogun state to help his people”.

While confirming that Governor Ibikunle Amosun is against Yayi’s ambition, Olokun said it is not new as the governor did it before when Yayi wanted to contest for the Ogun West senatorial seat, but that what God has destined to be will be.

“It is not strange that the governor is opposing his move, he did that when he wanted to run for Ogun West senatorial seat, he opposed Yayi with everything at his disposal, in fact he drove the man back to Lagos before he now became the senator for Lagos West.

“So it is not new if he wants to do the same thing, but what we know is that he is not God; God has said Yayi will become Ogun state governor in 2019 because everybody in Ogun state love him, even those who don’t know him but know what he has been doing in Lagos. They are all aware of his achievements in Lagos”, Olokun said.

According to him, Olamilekan’s chances are very bright and whatever political party platform he decides to run on he is sure to win.

Adding that, “even with what Amosun has done it will be difficult for APC to win Ogun state now except the party leadership come to the state to beg the people”, he said.

Others loyal to Yayi stated that he has everything going for him and that nobody, except God could stop him from realizing his ambition.

It had earlier been reported that Yayi was no longer interested in the office and that he wanted to re-contest for Lagos West Senatorial District in 2019 and slug it out with Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who recently returned to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
