Court orders interim forfeiture of N827m to Federal Govt

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of the sum of N827million recovered from a businessman, Matthew Edevbie, to the Federal Government.
Justice Chukwujeku Aneke made the order following an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
EFCC’s counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo told the judge that the sum, comprising N616,679,098.32 and N211,000,000.00 “is reasonably suspected to be part of proceeds of unlawful activities.”
Justice Aneke after granting the order adjourned further proceeding to 29th of June.
In a seven paragraph affidavit sworned to by an opreratve of EFCC CHlDl NWEKE said the money was Investigated. traced to and Recovered from Mr. MATTHEW EDEVBIE who Is the owner of Flank Power Resources.
That we traced some of these monies to the zenith Bank Account of Flank Power Resources Limited containing monies sought to be forfeited to the federal Government.
That if this application is not heard and determined expeditiously the monies housed in the said bank account sought to be temporarily lorfelted will be dissipated.
That it is in the interest of justice to hear and determine this applicatton urgently.
That I make this affidavit in good faith knowing and believing the facts deposed herein to be true and correct and in accordance with the Oaths Act.
