Be Role Models To Your Daughters, Says Ogun Commissioner, Oladapo

The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adijat Adeleye Oladapo has urged women and mothers to be role models to the younger generation and instil in them the virtues of good morals at tender ages.

Oladapo added that the their role in the family is one of the effective ways to teach moral values, especially to the girl child.

Hon. Adeleye Oladapo stated this while addressing some female students from different Government Secondary schools in Ogun State at a programme organized by the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWIOJ) with the theme; “Bibiire” at the NUJ Press Centre, Iwe Iroyin Abeokuta.

Oladapo harped on the importance of the role of mothers and women in instilling good morals on the younger generation.

She said; “Be assertive, confident, respectful and diligent. Know what you want to be and pursue it vigorously.

“Bibiire is about your values that must not be lost irrespective of any situation you find yourself and don’t allow anyone to make you feel inferior because of your gender.”

Other speakers at the occasion included the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Thecnology.

Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, who revealed that the essence of the event was to create awareness on the importance of the girl child, charged parents to ensure that there are educational equal opportunities for thier children regardless of gender.

Earlier in her welcome address, the state chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Modupeola Sobukola described NAWOJ as the voice for the voiceless and that there is need to raise the voice and bring cultural values to the girl child for the sake of the future.
