Wike Drops Bombshell: “Tinubu Saved Fubara with State Of Emergency”

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has made a startling revelation, stating that President Bola Tinubu saved Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from impeachment by declaring a state of emergency on March 18.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Friday, Wike — a former governor of Rivers State and a prominent political figure in the region — openly admitted that he had intended for Fubara to be removed from office. However, he claimed that President Tinubu’s intervention changed the course of events.

“As a politician, I am not happy about the state of emergency in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of Governor Fubara,” Wike said. “The president, by declaring a state of emergency, saved Fubara. The governor was gone, yes… so when people say the president did this, I say they should be praising him. Every morning, they should go to the president and ask, ‘Can we wash your feet for saving us?’”

Wike outlined several alleged offenses that, in his view, warranted Fubara’s removal. These included the non-payment of salaries and entitlements to legislators for over sixteen months, and governing with the support of only four lawmakers. According to Wike, the governor’s fate was effectively sealed until the federal government intervened.

He also expressed disappointment over Fubara’s failure to reach out to respected elders and stakeholders in Rivers State since the political crisis began.

“Has anybody taken it upon himself or herself to say, ‘This is where we are?’ If I am the cause of the problem, has he ever called me as an elder to say, ‘What is the problem? Let us sit down and talk?’” Wike questioned.

The minister’s comments are expected to further intensify the political crisis in Rivers State, raising new questions about federal government involvement and the future of Governor Fubara’s administration.
