A 47-year-old Chinese national in Kano State, identified as Geng Quangrong, has disclosed why he stabbed his girlfriend, Ummu Kulthum, to death in Kabuga Quarters, Dorayi Babba area of the State.

The suspect, who was arrested after he attacked and killed his 23-year-old girlfriend in her home (on Friday night), September 16, said he did it because he was betrayed.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect invaded the deceased’s home after scaling the fence to gain access and repeatedly stabbed her until she passed away.

Geng alleged that Ummu had promised to marry him, but later reneged on the promise after he had spent so much money on her.

The suspect claimed he was angered by Ummmu’s deception, and he decided to attack and kill her at her residence.
Deng has since been transferred to the State Police headquarters at Bompai for further investigation and prosecution while Ummu was buried on Saturday, September 17.

A neighbour to the late Ummu, Abubakar Mustapha said that she was a divorcee and the suspect was her boyfriend.

Mustapha said: “The incident happened around 10:00 pm last night. The murderer was her boyfriend  before she got married.

Her husband divorced her and they went on with their friendship as boyfriend and girlfriend. He often went to her house. She was taken to UMC Zhair Hospital not more than a kilometre away from her house where she died.
“Khaleed, her brother stopped the mob from attacking the murderer when he came back for his car  after the unfortunate incident when he entered the house because he (Khaleed) thought that will be lead to a different thing. The man was then caught and handed over to the police.”

Another neighbour, Muhammad Sani, noted that the Chinese man once attempted suicide because of his girlfriend, adding that the matter was settled with the intervention of the police.

Sani said, “When she was about to get married, he once attempted suicide because of his love for her until the police intervened and everything was settled.”
