President Bola Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the demise of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel who lost their lives in the helicopter crash in Niger state on Monday.

The NAF’s MI-171 helicopter crashed during a casualty evacuation mission near Chukuba village in Shiroro LGA of the state around 1 pm. The spokesperson of NAF, Edward Gabkwet, stated in a release that the crew and passengers of the helicopter had been admitted to the hospital. It was not immediately evident whether those involved in the crash ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Tinubu conveyed his deep sadness upon learning about the helicopter crash and the subsequent loss of officers. He remarked that Nigerians will forever regard these officers as national heroes.

Tinubu remarked, “These dedicated individuals were responding to the call of duty while engaged in an evacuation mission. Through their unwavering service to our cherished nation, they paid the ultimate price.”

“While we grieve for their untimely departure, their memory will live on, not only as servicemen, but as national heroes who offered everything for the harmony and safety of our nation.”

“They will always be commemorated as brave individuals who placed the well-being of their fellow citizens above the dangers inherent in their national responsibilities, ensuring that fellow countrymen and women can exist in tranquility.”

“We commend their selflessness, commitment, and allegiance to our beloved nation – the nation they held dear and faithfully served until the very end.”

“On behalf of a thankful nation, I extend my sympathies to their families, the chief of defence staff, the chief of air staff, the chief of army staff, the chief of naval staff, and the entire armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
