We Are On Course In My Ambition To Become Lagos Governor — Jandor

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has said that despite the challenges he has faced over the years, he remains firmly in the race for the Lagos State governorship seat at Alausa in 2027.
Jandor spoke during his 8th Annual Ramadan Public Lecture held at the premises of Lagos Television on Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
He stated that the lecture delivered by the guest speaker, Fadeelat Shaykh Alhaji Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal (Al-Jejewiyy), on the theme “Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: The Islamic Perspective,” had further enriched his political manifesto.
“The lecturer has added to my manifesto with his submissions. We intentionally asked some of our people not to come today, otherwise this place would have been too small.
“The people have been with us for about 10 years. Those here today are just the executive members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement. We have ward chairmen, local government executives, state executive members, and apex leaders who meet with us regularly.
“We didn’t start today. In 2023, they thought I would ask them to go home because of what happened after the general elections. We believe that 2023 was a test for us from God. I didn’t ask anyone to go home and we are still meeting at Liberty House.
“We are now at a critical moment and God knows whoever will get there. We have done what God asked us to do. We have made our efforts and we will wait to see what happens next,” he said.
Jandor added that no one from the Badagry Division of Lagos State has ever served as governor, expressing hope that God would answer the prayers of the people this time around.
According to him, by next year’s Ramadan, supporters would be thanking God for answered prayers.
In his lecture, the Islamic cleric, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal (Al-Jejewiyy), emphasised that God has absolute sovereignty over all affairs.
He noted that Islam is not merely a religion but a complete way of life, stressing that the teachings of Islam cover all aspects of human existence.
Speaking on the theme of the lecture, he explained that Zakat, the Islamic system of almsgiving and wealth redistribution, began in the second year of Hijrah and plays a vital role in poverty alleviation.
According to him, the welfare of Muslims is of great importance in Islam, adding that the religion encourages a good and balanced life.
“Islam believes that there is one God, recognises Prophet Muhammad, and enjoins believers to pray and give Zakat. Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam.
“Those who adhere to the five pillars of Islam are spiritually elevated. The purpose of Zakat is to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor and redistribute wealth within society. It also fosters unity and love among the people,” he said.
The cleric further explained that Zakat is not limited to money alone, but can also be given in the form of gold, farm produce, and livestock.
“For those who are wealthy, Allah is not asking for your capital. If after your business expenses you still have surplus wealth that remains for a year, then 2.5 per cent of that wealth should be given to the poor.
“Zakat is compulsory for Muslims who qualify, but Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is not compulsory. Even speaking kindly or helping others can be regarded as Sadaqah,” he added.
He noted that although many people give charity, proper monitoring and structured administration of Zakat are often lacking in many parts of the world compared to practices in some Arab countries.
Awwal suggested that governments could establish Zakat committees made up of technocrats to ensure effective management and distribution of funds for the benefit of society.
He added that Zakat could be used to support entrepreneurship, settle debts, provide education through scholarships, build hospitals, and assist vulnerable members of society.
Also speaking at the event, the Osolu of Irewe Kingdom in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, where Jandor hails from, Oba Abideen Durosinmi Agunbioyinbo, said the people’s support for Adediran was based on their belief in his leadership.
“This is a serious period. Whether Christian or Muslim, if we cooperate, God will make it possible. We left everything to be here and our efforts will not be in vain. When you do good, you will reap what you sow,” the monarch said.
Similarly, the Oloja of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiu Orimadegun Kasali, commended Adediran for organising the annual Ramadan lecture, noting that the holy month is a time for spiritual reflection and seeking God’s guidance.
“We thank God for Jandor and we pray that all the prayers offered for you will come to pass. May God give us a leader who will care for the people and govern with love,” he said.
Other traditional rulers who spoke at the event also offered prayers for the political ambition of Adediran, urging him to remain steadfast and continue his good works.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Idowu Agarau, said the Ramadan lecture series, which began eight years ago, was designed to promote Islamic teachings and offer solutions to societal challenges.
“The lecture is a way of guiding people on the path of Islam. We also want to use it to address economic challenges and explore ways to eliminate poverty,” he said.
Dignitaries at the event included the Grand Chief Imam of Ikeja Central Mosque, Alhaji (Sheikh) Adeola Ilo; the Onisheri of Isheri Kingdom, Oba Dr. Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal Bello; the Onishasa of Shasa Kingdom, Oba Nasirudeen Lawal Babatunde Akanni Ogunronbi; the Onidimu of Idimuland, Oba (Dr.) Noah Olayiwola Adefimihan Surataj Ilo; and several other traditional rulers and community leaders.
