As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Compos Mentis Legal Practitioners, CMLP, will hold her seventh edition of the WarriCentric 10km Run, in Warri, Delta State, on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

In a press statement released on Sunday, the First Vice President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Chief Solomon Ogba disclosed that outdoor recreation plays a critical role in boosting mental health and self-esteem, improving memory, and reducing stress, anxiety and depression, while also enhancing cardiovascular health, fitness and general wellbeing.

According to him, the WarriCentric Run, was established in 2017 by the late founder of CMLP, Dafe Akpedeye, SAN.

The seventh edition, tagged; “WarriCentric 7.0,” will feature a 10km road race starting and ending at the NNPC Housing Complex, Ekpan, and will take participants through notable streets and scenic landscapes of the oil-rich city in the heart of the Niger Delta. The race is scheduled to commence at 6:00am and end at about 10:00am.

Described as more than just a race, the WarriCentric Run has, over the years, evolved into a symbol of community bonding, wellness advocacy and social interaction, epitomising the unifying power of sports.

Recalling the 2025 edition, the city of Warri came alive in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, as athletes and fitness enthusiasts converged on the NNPC Housing Estate, Ekpan Road, despite poor visibility caused by harmattan haze and challenges posed by ongoing road construction. The event featured warm-up sessions, goodwill messages and strong institutional support from state officials.

The Director-General of the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA), Prince Okakuro Godwin Eyinyere, who represented the Delta State Governor, alongside the Managing Partner of CMLP, Emokiniovo Dafe-Akpedeye, delivered motivational remarks to set the tone for the race. Sponsors included Climax Energy Drink, Aquadana Table Water and Perfectus Laundi.

With about 150 participants, the 2025 race kicked off at 7:55am, with volunteers stationed along the route to provide water, glucose, armbands and moral support. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police ensured safety, while ambulance and first aid services were on standby.

Ogba, described the WarriCentric 10km Run as a celebration of Warri’s unique culture and a powerful platform for promoting health and fitness.

“WarriCentric celebrates our unique Warri culture while promoting health and fitness. We have created a platform that combines competitive athletics with community celebration, bringing together elite runners and everyday Deltans. It’s not just a race; it’s a cultural movement,” Ogba said.

He added that the initiative is changing narratives by fostering healthier lifestyles, creating opportunities for local athletes and positioning Warri as a viable host for world-class sporting events.

“For Nigeria, WarriCentric is strengthening our reputation in road racing, attracting national attention to Delta State and inspiring grassroots sports development. It promotes pride, wellness and economic opportunities through sports tourism,” he noted.

Ogba further expressed optimism about the future of the event, revealing plans to make WarriCentric a flagship fixture on Nigeria’s athletics calendar, with prospects for international participation, expanded youth programmes, running clinics and school partnerships.

Organisers say the 2026 edition will build on previous successes, reinforcing the legacy of the late Dafe Akpedeye, SAN, OFR, while deepening community engagement and promoting a healthier, more active society in Warri and beyond.

In 2025, Augustine Azurike emerged winner in the male category, while Jecinta Elias clinched the female title.
