WAEC Debunks Rumour Of 2025 WASSCE Cancellation

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has categorically denied rumours that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been cancelled.

The Council described the viral report as fake, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to create panic among students and parents.

In a statement, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, Moyosola Adesina, clarified that neither WAEC nor the Federal Ministry of Education has issued any directive to cancel the 2025 examination.

“The information is false. Marking of exam scripts is ongoing, and the results will be released soon,” Adesina stated.

The clarification comes in response to a forged press release circulating on social media, purportedly signed by a “Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Lawal” of the Federal Ministry of Education. The fake memo alleged that the WASSCE was cancelled due to widespread examination malpractice, including leaked question papers and the use of AI-generated answers.

WAEC has dismissed the claims as entirely fictitious and advised the public to disregard them.

The examination body further assured candidates, parents, and schools that all processes are progressing smoothly and according to schedule. It urged stakeholders to rely solely on official communication from WAEC’s verified platforms for accurate updates
