Victims Of Kaduna Fire Incident Get Donation Of N8bn FROM FG, APC Govs

The Federal Government and Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have donated N8bn to victims of the Singer market fire in Kano state.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the intervention on Monday during a sympathy visit to the market, disclosing that president Bola Tinubu approved the release of N5bn to the Kano state government as palliative support.
According to him, “President Bola Tinubu has approved the release of N5bn to the Government of Kano State as palliative towards this incident.
“Together, we have collectively contributed N8bn to the victims of the fire disaster. The federal government stands with you in this moment of hardship and will continue to provide the necessary support,” he stated.
He added that the All progressives congress governors forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, pledged an additional N3bn to assist affected traders.
This newspaper reports that the fire broke out on Saturday evening, February 14, 2026, in the Gidan Glass section of the market along Ado Bayero Road and raged into Sunday morning.
More than 1,000 shops were affected, with seven traders reportedly feared missing.
Describing the inferno as a national tragedy, Shettima said the disaster was not only a loss to Kano State but to the entire country.
He was accompanied on the visit by the governors of Jigawa, Kebbi and Imo states.
Junaid Zakari, Chairman of the Singer Market traders association thanked the federal government for what he described as a timely intervention, pledging that the funds would be used judiciously to support affected members and restore business activities.
Emergency responders, including the national emergency management agency and the federal fire service, later contained the blaze, which officials linked to a possible solar battery explosion.
