Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed London with the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at a London clinic, aged 82.

This was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.

According to Nkwocha, “I can confirm that Vice President Kashim Shettima, as directed by President Bola Tinubu, has left London for Nigeria, accompanied by some members of the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s family. They are bringing the former President’s body back to Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State, later today.”

He added that other members of the Federal Government delegation appointed by President Tinubu have also departed London for Nigeria.

In honour of the late former President, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday. This forms part of a seven-day national mourning period announced by President Tinubu to celebrate Buhari’s life, service, and legacy.

Buhari’s death was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu.
