Nigeria has lost one of its media icons and community stalwarts, Pa Jola Ogunlusi, who peacefully passed away on the morning of Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the age of 91. His passing was confirmed in a heartfelt tribute by renowned broadcaster, Gbenga Aruleba, on behalf of the Ogunlusi family.

Fondly known as Papa Jola, the former National Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) was described as a man who dedicated his life to service—of humanity, journalism, and community. His career began in the 1970s, and over the decades, he distinguished himself as a fearless journalist, a compassionate leader, and a tireless advocate for justice, equity, and fairness.

Beyond the newsroom, Pa Ogunlusi’s footprint in community development was profound. He once served as the President of the FESTAC Town Residents Association and later became the Chairman of the Community Development Council (CDC), Amuwo Odofin chapter. His leadership and collaboration with others were instrumental in the establishment of the Amuwo Odofin Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Described as kind, loving, and deeply principled, Pa Ogunlusi touched the lives of many — from family members to colleagues and neighbors. His legacy of sincerity, wisdom, and quiet strength leaves behind a lasting imprint that transcends generations.

As the Ogunlusi family begins preparations for his final rites, they have asked for prayers and support during this difficult time.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
