Updated Report: Tragedy in Delta As Aide To Governor Dies In Suspected Poisoning—Husband Held

Delta State was thrown into mourning and disbelief on Easter Monday as Shimite Bello, a high-ranking political figure and Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, tragically lost her life under chilling circumstances.
Popularly known as Madam Sabificate, Bello was reportedly found foaming at the mouth and rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba, where she was declared dead on arrival. The shocking twist? Her husband, Pastor David Favour Love, is now in police custody amid harrowing allegations of poisoning
Sources close to the family have painted a disturbing picture of Shimite’s final days. They claim she was increasingly isolated from friends and family, with her husband reportedly exerting disturbing levels of control over her life. “He locked her indoors, shadowed her every step, and called himself her spiritual father. She trusted him blindly,” a distraught relative revealed.
Even more damning are allegations that the husband manipulated legal documents to transfer ownership of her properties and assets into his name—raising serious suspicions about motive.
Before her untimely death, Bello was a powerhouse in Delta’s political and business landscape. She previously served as Executive Secretary of the Delta State MSME Agency and led the Quintessential Group as CEO—earning a reputation as a fierce advocate for small businesses and women entrepreneurs.
Shimite reportedly passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday, with initial accounts attributing her death to a brief illness.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, stated that Shimite was “confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken.”
A significant focus of the investigation is on her husband, who was the first to alert authorities.
According to Edafe, “He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked.
“It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
Edafe clarified that the husband is currently in protective custody, not under arrest.
However, the case took a new turn after Shimite’s family formally lodged a complaint with the police, alleging possible foul play.
“The deceased’s family later lodged a formal complaint with the police,” Edafe said, adding that the family suspects the husband may have had a hand in her death.
In response, the police said they are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
“We are currently investigating,” Edafe noted.
“In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.”
As police intensify investigations into what is quickly turning into a high-profile murder case, the people of Delta and beyond await answers—and justice.
