Troops Intercept Truck with Over 164,000 Cartridges in Anambra, Notorious Gunrunner Arrested

In a significant blow to arms trafficking networks, troops from Sector 5 of Operation UDO KA, in joint coordination with operatives of the 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a truck transporting over 164,000 live cartridges in Anambra State.
The high-stakes operation unfolded on 29 May 2025 along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway, following credible intelligence reports. Acting swiftly, security forces apprehended a suspected arms trafficker, Mr. Emeka Omenife, who was allegedly conveying the massive cache of ammunition.
According to intelligence sources, Omenife was immediately handed over to the DSS for further interrogation. During preliminary questioning, he reportedly confessed to being part of a transnational ammunition trafficking syndicate, allegedly smuggling arms from Ghana into Nigeria.
Based on his confession, security forces launched a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of another suspect, Mr. Uchenna Obiora, on 30 May 2025 at the Onitsha–Awka tollgate, where he was reportedly waiting to receive the illicit consignment.
The intercepted truck had been strategically modified to conceal the cartridges, in an attempt to evade detection. The bust is being hailed as a major success in the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms proliferation.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling arms trafficking networks that threaten national peace and security, vowing that such operations will continue across the region.
