Troops Arrest Suspected Bandit in Military Camouflage, Recover Arms in Kaduna and Plateau

Troops of the 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have apprehended a suspected bandit and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in separate operations conducted across Kaduna and Plateau States.

According to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, troops intercepted a suspected armed bandit on June 15 at Katsit community in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The suspect, who was dressed in military combat camouflage, was allegedly impersonating soldiers to rob unsuspecting residents.

Items recovered from the suspect include:

• One AK-47 rifle
• One AK-47 magazine
• Three rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
• Seven empty cases of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
• A fake vigilante identity card
• A mobile phone
• Two ATM cards

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation.

In a related operation, troops in the early hours of June 16 raided a suspected gunrunning syndicate’s hideout at Kwanar Lauje in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Although the suspects fled before the troops arrived, a search of the area led to the recovery of significant arms and ammunition, including:

• One AK-47 rifle
• One AK-47 magazine
• One AK-47 rifle butt
• 300 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition
• One 9mm round
• Two 12.7mm rounds
• An abandoned motorcycle

The recovered items are currently in military custody. Follow-up operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
