Top UNILAG Don Set To Lay Father To Rest

All is set for the burial of late Chief (Dr) Edgar Ekuanghanju Oyibo, father of a top UNILAG don, Prof. Wellington Oyibo.

Oyibo, professor and Consultant, Medical Parasitologist, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, made the announcement in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.

According to Prof. Oyibo, the late elder statesman who was an alumnus of the University of Lagos, attended the then College of Education, Abraka, Delta State and St. David’s College, Ebvoneka, in Edo, would be laid to rest on Friday Nov. 21.

 

He noted that Chief Oyibo, who died on Jan. 27, was aged 88.

“With total submission and gratitude to God for a life well-lived, the OYIBO and Ugbeide Dynasty of Mosogar, Ethiope-West Local Government Area (LGA) and the IGBE/EDINO families of Oria-Abraka, Ethiope-East LGA, both in Delta, announce the passing on to glory and farewell/celebration of life activities of their PATRIARCH, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, in-law and husband, Late Sir Chief (DR) Edgar Ekuanghanju Oyibo JP LSQ MNIM.

“Sir, Edgar Oyibo, was a loving father, grand-father, brother, husband, devout Christian, unifier, educationist, policy influencer, community leader, peacemaker, entrepreneur and a blessing to his sphere of contact and humanity,” Prof. Oyibo stated.

Giving a run down of his life and times, the don said his father, Sir, (Chief ) E.E. Oyibo JP, served actively in the Ministry of Education, Delta State until he retired as a Senior Principal.

He added that he was also an Honorary member, First Member, Post-Primary Education Board, Asaba, in Delta State, where he served for two terms (1999-2007).

According to him, he was a board member, Federal Root Crop Research Institute, Umudike, in Abia (2008-2011) among other positions where he served with excellence.

“He also managed impactful educational enterprises and initiatives, as a way of giving back to society.

“Chief Edgar Oyibo JP, the Ekpe of the Ugbeide Dynasty and Iya Whorebo of Mosogar kingdom was a custodian of knowledge in Urhobo history and culture, wisdom, and community values.

“His legacy of kindness, integrity, Christian and community service will continue to live in our hearts, and we are eternally grateful to God,” he stated.

Announcing activities lined up for his final farewell, Prof. Oyibo said on Tuesday Nov. 18, there would be an Evening of Tributes by 5.00 p,m, at Okpe Hall, Okpe Road, Sapele, in Delta.

Speaking further, the one time director, Office of Research and Innovation of UNILAG, said that this would be followed by a Service of Songs on Thursday, Nov. 20, by 5.00 pm, at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion)16, Boyo Road, Sapele in Delta.

According to the don, the farewell and celebration of life service would hold on Friday, Nov. 21, by 8.00am, followed by family rites of the passage and farewell, at the Oyibo family compound at Mosogar Town.

“The farewell and celebration of life church service will come up at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 16, Boyo Road, Sapele, Delta State at 10.00 am.

“The interment will hold at his country home, College/Evwonogbo Road Mosogar Ethiope-West LGA in Delta.

“Thereafter, there will be a reception, at the College of Education Permanent SITE, College/Evwonogbo Road, after the Police Station, Mosogar.

“The in-law greetings will come up on Nov. 22, at Chief Edgar Oyibo JP, family compound.

“Finally, the outing service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion); 16, Boyo Road, Sapele, Delta State at 9.00 am,” Prof. Oyibo stated.

The late chief Oyibo is survived by children among whom is Wellington Aghoghovwia Oyibo.
