As part of activities marking the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced a 19-day schedule dedicated to the commissioning of completed projects across the Federal Capital Territory.

The announcement was made following the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. According to a statement released by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning exercise will commence on June 10, 2025.

“The commissioning of projects will commence on June 10, 2025 and will go on for 19 days,” Olayinka stated, highlighting the significance of the initiative in showcasing President Tinubu’s infrastructural development agenda within the FCT.

Projects slated for commissioning include a mix of transport infrastructure and key road networks designed to enhance connectivity and ease movement within Abuja. These include:

  • The newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre
  • Bus Terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi
  • Apo-Wassa Road
  • N16 Interchange and connecting roads from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi
  • Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road)
  • CN8 road link from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal
  • N20 Flyover on Kubwa Road and Life Junction to Ring Road III

Additional road projects in satellite towns and rural areas will also be unveiled. These include the Kabulsa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, roads in Giri District, and a 15km road stretching from A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council. Other roads to be commissioned include the Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint roads in Bwari Area Council.

In addition to the commissioning blitz, the FCTA Executive Committee has approved the award of a critical contract for the upgrade of streetlights along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). This was disclosed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr. Richard Dauda.

Dauda explained that the streetlight upgrade is among seven memos submitted and approved by the committee. The project targets the replacement of outdated lighting on the 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu.

“The current streetlights were installed between 2005 and 2006, and many have since become obsolete,” Dauda said. “At night, large stretches of the expressway remain in darkness, posing safety concerns. The upgrade will introduce a hybrid lighting system utilizing newer, brighter, and more energy-efficient technology.”

According to Dauda, the improved lighting will enhance nighttime visibility and security along the major expressway.

The FCTA’s intensive commissioning schedule underlines its commitment to infrastructure renewal and development in Abuja and aligns with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
