Tinubu: The Unusual President

By: Shehu Bashir Esq.
It has been said several times that Tinubu is not as intellectually slumbering as he placidly looks. His taciturnity is often mistaken for timidity.
Many people take him for granted and wrongly judge him as “slothful”. They have forgotten the Yoruba adage that says “the stalking of cheetah is not that of timidity”. Being slow in physical pace is not the same as being dull in mental capacity.
I have said very many times that Tinubu as a president is never too busy to follow up on what is happening here on social space – he reads, watches and listens to social commentaries and unsolicited pieces of advice that fly around here.
He has the rare capacity to shuffle and sieve all opinions, juggle them and streamline them as action plans, picking from various opinions, yet, without losing sight of the main goal of his administration’s agenda.
One of the most admirable qualities of a good leader is to be able to mix the reality of the situation to the visibility of your original agenda. The ability to blend through and change course for the better is what is defining Tinubu as a dynamic president.
Anyone can argue to the contrary, but the truth is, you can almost be certain that he has the ability to browse through a difficult network even in the peak of a delicate situation.
While everyone was on melt down regarding the threat of attack by an “un-august” visitor, virtually everyone was in agreement that the president needed to appoint Ambassadors to represent the country in United States and some other countries. The president has just hit the gavel in “aye have it” to that suggestion – he has nominated the first set of Ambassadors.
There is no gain-saying that the national emergency on security which he has just declared is a response to reality check and people’s recommendations.
Without fidgeting in panic, and without altering the balance of the existing structures, security and political, he has just made the preliminary decisions to confront the raging scattered attacks against Nigerians by none state actors, by declaring emergency on some key issues.
This new emergency directive, notwithstanding that it is not entirely with “martial force”, it will still go a long way to address the immediate challenges and prepare the ground for a grounded future “modus operandi” to solve our security challenges in finality.
If you do not know anything about security management or you are watching from the prism of political sentiment, you are likely not going to see anything in what he just did.
But if your sight is deeper in clarity behind your eye socket, you will see from your inner retina that the president is seeing what most people do not see.
Therefore, as we take these further steps in tackling the insecurity, it is our hope that these measures will help in solving the current insecurity problems, while taking further comprehensive measures to stamp out terrorism from our geographical space.
