Tinubu Mourns Plateau Cleric, Hails Legacy Of Faith And Courage

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Nghar village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, who died at the age of 92.
The late Imam Abubakar rose to national and international prominence in 2018 after courageously sheltering more than 200 Christians during the communal violence that engulfed parts of Plateau State, an act that saved countless lives at great personal risk.
President Tinubu described the revered cleric as an extraordinary religious leader whose life embodied faith, courage and an unshakable belief in the sanctity of human life.
“At a time when tribal and religious sentiments threatened to overwhelm reason, Imam Abubakar stood firmly on the side of peace, compassion and conscience,” the President said.
He noted that, despite the grave danger to his own life, the late cleric chose humanity over division, love over hatred, and unity over rejection, adding that his selfless actions spoke more powerfully than any sermon.
“His heroic deed captured the essence of true faith and sent a profound message to the world. Imam Abubakar remains a shining example of the better humanity we should all strive to embody,” President Tinubu stated.
The President recalled that the Imam’s uncommon bravery earned him both local and international recognition for his commitment to peaceful coexistence and interfaith harmony.
President Tinubu urged religious and community leaders across the country to draw inspiration from the late cleric’s life by promoting tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful cohabitation among people of diverse backgrounds.
He prayed that Almighty God grants Imam Abdullahi Abubakar eternal rest and rewards him abundantly for his courage, compassion and service to humanity
