Tinubu Hails Taiwo Oyedele at 50, Praises His Role in Tax Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, on the occasion of his 50th birthday, celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu joined the Oyedele family, friends, and well-wishers in honouring the accomplished tax expert, economist, and accountant, describing him as a shining example of excellence, innovation, and resilience in both public and private service.
The President highlighted Mr. Oyedele’s remarkable journey from his modest beginnings in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, to global academic and professional distinction. He noted that Oyedele’s educational pursuits at prestigious institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, and Harvard Kennedy School reflect a lifelong commitment to knowledge, discipline, and integrity.
“From his early days in Ikare Akoko to his leadership at PwC and his studies abroad, Mr. Oyedele has consistently demonstrated that true achievement is built on merit, hard work, and ethical values,” President Tinubu stated.
Reflecting on Oyedele’s ongoing national assignment, President Tinubu commended his leadership of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which was inaugurated on August 8, 2023. The President recalled tasking the committee with the ambitious mandate to overhaul Nigeria’s tax and fiscal systems, raise the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio to 18% within three years, and enhance the overall business environment.
“Although I am still awaiting the harmonised four tax bills for my assent, preliminary results are promising. Our tax-to-GDP ratio has already climbed from 10% to over 13.5% — a clear indication that the reforms are on track,” the President noted.
He lauded Mr. Oyedele, the former Africa Tax Leader at PwC, for championing the cause of a fairer, simpler, and more growth-driven tax regime in Nigeria. The President further acknowledged Oyedele’s work in streamlining tax structures, easing the burden on low-income earners, and crafting fiscal policies that support inclusive economic development.
As Mr. Oyedele marks his golden jubilee, President Tinubu expressed confidence in his continued contributions to national development, particularly in mentoring future leaders through platforms like the Impact Africa Foundation.
The President concluded by praying for Mr. Oyedele’s continued strength, wisdom, and fulfilment in his service to Nigeria and humanity.
