President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the states of Kano and Rivers, describing their victories as a reflection of the people’s confidence in democratic governance.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections across the six area councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged the newly elected officials to serve with humility, patriotism and a deep sense of responsibility.
According to him, the mandate given by the electorate should be regarded as a sacred trust that demands dedication to public service and the overall development of their constituencies.
President Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the administration’s performance translated into political gains for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He also congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as the party’s structures in Kano and Rivers states, for the victories recorded at the polls.
The President lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and voters for ensuring a peaceful and successful electoral process. He praised the contestants for demonstrating courage and discipline, emphasizing that democracy thrives on active participation and healthy competition.
Tinubu affirmed that the smooth conduct of the elections further strengthens Nigeria’s democratic culture and institutions, and he encouraged INEC to continue refining its processes to deliver even more credible and exemplary elections in the future.
