Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has conveyed that his principal has made a commitment to prevent any future rise in petrol pump prices.

In a conversation with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Ngelale remarked that the planned strike by the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) is untimely.

“The President emphasizes the need for all stakeholders in the country to remain calm. We have recently heard from the organized labor movement in the country regarding their recent threat,” Ngelale stated.

“We believe that this threat has come prematurely and that it’s essential for all parties to conduct thorough fact-finding and analysis of the current state of the downstream and midstream petroleum industry before arriving at any conclusions or issuing threats.”

Furthermore, Ngelale conveyed that President Tinubu, in light of the recent announcement by NNPC Limited, guarantees that there will not be an increase in the price of petroleum motor spirit (petrol) anywhere in the country.

“We reiterate, the President asserts that there will be no increase in the pump price of petroleum motor spirit,” Ngelale emphasized.

Ngelale highlighted that Tinubu is committed to maintaining competitive dynamics in all sub-sectors of the petroleum industry. The President aims to ensure that the policy implemented ensures that no single entity monopolizes the market.

“The market has been deregulated. It has been opened up, and we are progressing in that direction without looking back,” Ngelale explained.

“The President also reaffirms that there are existing inefficiencies within the midstream and downstream petroleum sub-sectors. Once these inefficiencies are swiftly addressed and resolved, we can sustain current prices without needing to reverse this administration’s deregulation policy in the petroleum industry.”
