Three Nigerians Convicted For Vehicle Theft In Kumasi, Ghana

The Ashanti Regional Police Command in Ghana has confirmed the conviction of three Nigerian nationals for engaging in a series of vehicle thefts within the Kumasi Metropolis.

The suspects — Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze — were arrested on June 20, 2025, after being linked to theft activities targeting parked vehicles in the city.

On July 22, 2025, were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court. During the proceedings, Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty and was immediately convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL). His co-accused, Francis Friday and Linus Agwazie, however, pleaded not guilty.

The following day, July 23, Circuit Court 3 found Friday and Agwazie guilty on two counts each, handing them 8 years IHL sentences, to run concurrently. On the same day, Circuit Court 1 also heard additional charges against all three, slamming each with 20-year concurrent sentences on two counts.

Ekenze’s legal woes deepened on July 24, when Circuit Court 2 convicted him again, adding another 10-year concurrent sentence to his record.

All three convicts are currently serving their terms at the Kumasi Central Prison.

In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command described the convictions as a major success in the fight against organized and transnational crime. The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging the public to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, who signed the release, stressed that the convictions demonstrate the resolve of law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure that criminals face the full weight of the law.
