Untold details of the Impeachment of Principal Officers in Kogi State House of Assembly

Contrary to the several versions of why some Principal Officers of Kogi State House of Assembly were impeached and suspended, the immediate causes of the recent ruckus in the erstwhile relatively peaceful House are basically premised on the attempt by majority of Honourable members to openly express their frustration over the shabby treatment they have been forced to endure for long in the hands of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the State’s Governor.
Prior to this time, it is public knowledge that the Assembly are lackeys who are tied to the apron strings of the Governor. The Assembly is frequently referred to as a rubber stamp as it always does the bidding of the Executive which they dub, robust Executive-Legislative relationship.
Many of the Honourable members hoped for a favourable consideration for a second tenure or upgrade to the National Assembly and endured the indignation.
For instance, three years Constituency allowances are yet to be paid, official vehicles were not bought for almost two years for them and other entitlements not released.
After the primaries that saw the ambitions of the majority of Members hitting the rocks, they decided to speak out openly against the maltreatment; a move resisted by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Matthew. O. Kolawole.
The refusal of the Speaker to preside over any plenary session that will embarrass the Governor prompted the majority of the members to start the process to impeach him.
This attempt was doused but those impeached now insisted on speaking out.
The revelation of the reason for the persistent attempt to unseat the Speaker made the Governor intervene which resulted in the sack of the principal officers of the Assembly except two.
The impeachment has nothing to do with the futile Presidential bid of the Governor. Rather, it is a decisive action to silent Honourable Members who felt betrayed and are aggrieved for a lot of reasons.
As it stands, the deed is done and the attempt to misrepresent facts is belated and myopic.
With a disgruntled Assembly at the mercy of an Executive that is brutish, the last has really not been heard about events in the Kogi State House of Assembly.
