The Hatred For Nigeria Has Gone Viral

There’s a disturbing trend infecting public discourse: a reflexive, almost pathological hatred for anything that paints Nigeria in a positive light. It’s no longer just criticism—it’s contempt. Some people have become so consumed by cynicism that even moments of national pride are twisted into sinister plots.

Take Hilda Baci’s Guinness World Record feat with Jollof Rice—a celebration of culinary excellence and Nigerian resilience. Instead of applause, some voices claimed it was a government-sponsored distraction to prevent a Nepal-style uprising. No evidence. No logic. Just raw bitterness.

This isn’t activism. It’s delusion. The idea that every achievement must be a cover-up, every celebration a conspiracy, reveals a mindset that’s lost the ability to hope. Criticism is healthy. Accountability is necessary. But when hatred becomes the default lens, even progress looks like propaganda.

Nigeria isn’t perfect. But it deserves better than this epidemic of self-sabotage. Patriotism isn’t blind loyalty—it’s the courage to celebrate what’s good while fighting to fix what’s broken. And right now, we need more of that courage.

Congrats to Hilda Baci —and to every Nigerian who has done something great or still carries the patriotic zeal to see the unfolding positive developments in our country. You are the heartbeat of a better Nigeria.
