Teenagers, Youths Made Vow Of Purity As Group Wants Feb.14 Turned World Chastity Day

By Kazeem Akande
(NAN) Centre for Defense of Morality (CDM) has mobilised 2000 teenagers and youths on a purity vow to change the narrative of February 14, to World Chastity Day.
Mr Nkem Chima, the CDM International President said during the Parade on Monday that the annual chastity parade has impacted the youths positively globally.
Chima said that yearly programme has brought tremendously successful on all fronts among the teenagers and youths.
“We have surpassed our expectations and we are indeed very grateful that we’ve come this far over 14 years of our existence.
“There’s a remarkable difference because we have moved the annual programme from the National Theater to the University of Lagos and our intention is to make sure that we universalise the message among the youths.
“Our message is that girls should keep their body bodies till wedding night and we make certain that we get to the age bracket that needs it most.
“They have the capacity to transmit the information very, very fast. On social media, using several networks and then we can use the foothold at the University of Lagos to reach other universities within the country,” he said.
According to him, If we could hold World Chastity Day at all universities, University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Nigeria, University of Abuja, and the rest of the universities across the country.
He said that the development would be a dream come true for us as they are having it in Abidjan and Ebonyi State simultaneously.
“So people are coming together for such an event because they love it because it’s helping them and they’re telling us how much it’s helping them.
“At the marriage level, we have seen previous alumni that the vow is helping them.
“At the marriage level, we have seen previous alumni of the parade, who have testimonies from their husbands and some from their wives.
“And some are joint testifiers that keeping to the vow has helped them build a credible past, in order to walk into a credible future.
Mrs Uche John, the Programme Coordinator for the Chastity Day said in her remarks that the 2026 event witnessed lots of teenagers who are looking for an alternative to what the media is saying about Valentine Day.
“This time around we have a lot of secondary school students. And you see them so focused, and ready.
“They are looking for an alternative to what the media has given to them, telling them promiscuity or moral decadence is Immorality is the way of life.
“But they are seeing another alternative to it and I see the excitement in them and that’s what is making this edition more fruitful.
“Because most of them that attended last year, 2025, they enjoyed it and they knew what the vow they took about chastity did to them and they invited their friends.
“So we see that the impact has been made and the new ones they have invited.were brought into it.
“And that’s why we came to UNILAG this year so that whatever we start, we need to continue.
John said that CDM was building chastity clubs in different schools across universities to further enlighten them more about initiative.
According to her, after these chastity events, we are going into the universities for them to continue hearing that word and when it keeps sinking into their head that there is something called chastity.
“When you wait for the right time to have sex, there is a right time to have a boyfriend and when you get married you get married in honour and your future is actually bright.
“So stay chaste, be different know that waiting is winning,” she said.
Favour Ufere, one of the participants, thanked the organisers for the yearly exposure and enlightenment on abstinence.
According to her, the annual programme will help the teeming youth to channel and focus on their future plans rather than chasing undue relationships that ruin the future.
Ufere said that the positive decisions and vow of purity would help the teenagers and the youths progress in her academic career and be more focused.
“The decision and the vow has helped me a lot in my career having made the vow since 2016, it really helped academically, emotionally and socially,” she said.
