Soludo’s Govt Dismisses Vigilante Operatives Over Assault on Corps Member

The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight personnel of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group for assaulting a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Miss Jennifer Edema Elohor.

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi, announced the decision on Wednesday in Awka. He stated that the dismissed personnel would be handed over to the police for immediate prosecution, stressing that the Soludo administration has zero tolerance for brutality and unprofessional conduct.

According to Emeakayi, the erring officers were found guilty after an internal investigation, despite pleas from the victim’s family and NYSC officials not to prolong the matter. He added that the agency had taken responsibility by settling Miss Elohor’s medical bills, replacing her damaged valuables including a laptop and phone, and issuing a public apology to her, her family, the NYSC, and the public.

The dismissal follows a viral video released on Tuesday showing the vigilante operatives assaulting corps members during a pursuit of suspected cultists on July 23, 2025. The footage sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

Describing the incident as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable,” Emeakayi assured that government would continue to ensure discipline and accountability within community security outfits across the state.
