Sheikh Goni Aisami-Gashua’s murder: Army react following the arrest of 2 Soldiers

The Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, has confirmed the arrest of the two suspects in connection with the alleged killing of  Islamic scholar, Sheikh Goni Aisami-Gashua.

Sheikh Goni Aisami Gashua was shot dead on his way from Kano State to his base in Gashua town in Yobe State, witnesses and Police officials said.

The cleric was allegedly murdered on Saturday by two Military personnel

Gashua was shot dead inside his car at Jaji-Maji, few kilometres from Gashua town at about 10am on Saturday morning.

One of his close friends, Hon. M. K. Gogaram told LEADERSHIP that  two suspected Military personnel fired shots at the cleric before taking his body away from his car and abandoned same at a roadside.

The late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Aisami, has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

Gashua has been one of the most peaceful communities in the state, even at the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Reacting,the military headquarters of  Sector, Operation Hadin Kai has said it is carrying out detail investigations  to unravel the identity of the two suspected soldiers alleged to have murdered Sheikh Goni Aisami in cold blood.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Sector, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu disclosed this in a statement to newsmen on Sunday.

He noted that the Sector has  instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding the unfortunate incident.

At the end of the investigation, the soldiers would be made to face the full wrath of both military and civil laws.

“This incident is highly regrettable given the Sector’s disposition and zero tolerance for violation of Code of Conduct and Rules of engagement for troops”, Capt. Anyanwu said.

The Sector commiserated with the family of the victim and the good people of Yobe State, while pledging that justice would be served accordingly.
