Salawa Abeni Goes On Stage With Son, Big Sheff …Recuperates After Accident

Queen Salawa Abeni is an artiste that virtually made ‘Waka’ style of music very popular and took it beyond bounds.
Her style was of music was first made known to many by Batile Alake, but the influence of Salawa on the Islamic-influenced traditional Yoruba style of music cannot be rubbished. This made the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi to crown Salawa as the ‘Queen of Waka Music’ in 1992.
Salawa began her professional music career with her debut album, ‘Late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed’ in 1976 under Leader Records and since then, she has remained one of the forces to be reckoned with in her line of profession.
In 1986, the 53-year-old musician left Leader Records after her relationship with the label’s owner, Lateef Adepoju ended. She then married Fuji music star, Kollington Ayinla and joined his record label instead, staying with him until 1994.
While their affair lasted, the couple had children and one of them is a rapper, who goes by the stage name, Big Sheff.
Recently, Salawa did a remix of one of her hit singles, ‘Gentle Lady’ and featured her son, who rapped on it.
They both performed Penultimate week the song at the 2015 Felebration, which received wide applauses from guests at the event. The mother and son have even gone further to drop video of the song and it is currently enjoying massive airplays.

Salawa Abeni Recuperates After Accident
Family members of Queen of Waka music, Salawa Abeni, are praying profusely for the quick recovery of the veteran musician.
Salawa, according to information, was hospitalised after she had a fall on Sunday, October 18, 2015, on her way to a function in Lagos. She was said to have slipped while trying to alight from her car.
The singer was scheduled to perform at the City People Fashion Awards held in Ikeja penultimate Sunday when the unfortunate incident occurred.
She was rushed to Triumph Hospital, located on Toyin Street in Ikeja and we learnt she is responding to treatment.
Her eldest daughter, Aminat Okikiola revealed that her mother is not undergoing a surgery as being reported in a section of the media.
‘She is not having a surgery. By the grace of God, she should be out of the hospital this weekend (last weekend),’ she said.
Aminat said further, ‘It was not a minor accident, she took a nasty fall as she tried to come out of the car and somehow the driver moved the car. She suffered a bruised face, broken arm and shoulder. She was on her way to the City People Fashion Awards in Ikeja when she slipped. We just got a phone call that she was being rushed to the hospital.’
