Contrary to insinuations by supporters of the Labour Party that Mrs Ruby Onwudiwe, who was initially nominated into the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by President Bola Tinubu, rejected the nomination, investigation revealed that her appointment was withdrawn by the government.
It was gathered that Onwudiwe’s nomination as CBN Board member was withdrawn after the government received complaints from top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over Ruby’s support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Solomon Adeola reportedly pointed out the impropriety of the nomination to President Tinubu during his meeting with Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and other senators.
Some top APC supporters had earlier protested strongly to senior government officials on the abnormality of the nomination of an opposition figure to serve at the apex bank after the news of her nomination.
We were informed that Ruby was consulted and her CV was duly acknowledged while she was keenly looking forward to be screened by the Senate.
“When she was consulted, did she inform the “emergency lovers of Ruby” that she was submitting her CV?  She kept the whole thing underwrap and she had even deleted some of her pro obi tweets because of the appointment.
“The same Channel of Communication conveyed the message of withdrawal to her. Those changing the narrative just have to shut up. They were not privileged to back channel communications,” a source said.
According to a commentator, “the mob” aka Obidient Movement, pushed the woman into this issue because of their bile campaign.
“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike is in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but he is working for this administration
“If the Obidient Movement had not gone the negative way, this woman would not have issues getting the office.”
