Residents Demand Restoration of Power in Abule Taylor Community After Three-Day Blackout

Residents of Abule Taylor Community in Agbado-Oke Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have called on Ikeja Electric to urgently restore electricity following a three-day blackout.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Abule-Taylor People’s Coalition, the community warned that failure to restore power would compel them to stage a protest at Ikeja Electric’s undertaking office and proceed to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) office.

The statement, signed by Mr. Olusola Omad, disclosed that a power line pole collapsed on December 16, 2025, after a vehicle reportedly rammed into it, plunging the affected areas into darkness.

According to the coalition, officials of Ikeja Electric visited the scene on Tuesday morning but stated that the company had no available pole to replace the damaged one.

“Our findings show that Ikeja Electric officials insisted that electricity supply cannot be restored until the owner of the vehicle involved purchases a replacement pole,” the statement said.

The residents also expressed displeasure over what they described as poor communication from Ikeja Electric, noting that no official information had been relayed to the community regarding the situation or steps being taken to restore supply.

Streets affected by the outage include Aina Street, Obabunmi Thomas Street, and other adjoining areas.

“We will serve formal complaint letters to Ikeja Electric’s head office and the NERC office. If electricity is not restored, we will embark on the ‘Ikeja Electric Restore Our Light’ protest on Monday, December 22,” Omad stated.

The coalition noted that the prolonged blackout has caused severe hardship for households and businesses within the community, disrupting economic and social activities.

Residents therefore urged Ikeja Electric to intervene urgently to prevent further economic losses and social dislocation in the area.
