Reno Omokri: From Fiery Critic To Ambassador Of The Federal Republic

In a twist that captures both the unpredictability of politics and the quiet, transformative power of time, Reno Oritsebemigho Omokri — once among the most vocal critics of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — now stands before the nation with humility, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose as he accepts his nomination as an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Opening his statement, Omokri struck a tone of deep appreciation. “I thank God Almighty for this nomination and look forward to serving my fatherland and humanity,” he said — words that reflect a journey marked by introspection, reconciliation, and rediscovery. For a man whose commentaries once set social media aflame, this moment is not merely personal; it is emblematic of how convictions can evolve without compromising one’s core principles.

He expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu, whom he now describes as a “visionary and exemplary leader.” To Omokri, the appointment signifies more than political validation — it is a lesson in forgiveness, patriotism, and leadership.

“The President has taught me the meaning of forgiveness and helped me better understand what patriotism entails,” he noted. “Christlikeness is demonstrated in him. He is the right man, at the right time, for the right job, and deserves the right hand of fellowship from all Nigerians.”

It is a remarkable shift from a man who once confronted the President with unrestrained fervour. Yet in Nigeria’s ever-evolving political space, bridges often matter more than battles. Omokri’s acceptance represents a pivot: from opposition to nation-building, from combativeness to collaboration.

He also paid an emotional tribute to his parents, Esijolomi and Omerewumi, acknowledging them as the foundational architects of his character. And in a rare moment of effusive admiration, he lauded National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu as “a man in whom all Earth’s goodness could reside if it were possible.”

But the most tender portion of his message was reserved for his wife, Hana — “my yene konjoo” — whom he credited as his steady anchor through the turbulence of public scrutiny. Over the past three years, he has been a target for those opposed to his loyalty to President Tinubu and his unwavering defence of the Nigerian project. Through every storm, she remained steadfast.

As his statement drew to a close, Omokri transitioned from personal sentiment to national conviction.

“May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!” he declared — a signal of his readiness to embrace the weight and responsibility of his new diplomatic role.

Reno Omokri’s acceptance is more than a political announcement; it is a testament to the fluidity of Nigeria’s democratic culture — a landscape where yesterday’s critic can emerge as today’s statesman, and where service to the nation ultimately rises above political fault lines.
