In the true spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, members of the Divine Mandate Movement (DMM), a prominent journalistic movement, on Sunday held an Iftar (Breaking of fast) with the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Labour Matters, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, at his Alalubosa GRA, Ibadan residence.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of the movement, Comrade Raji Adebayo, was warmly received by the Special Adviser, who welcomed the team with humility and hospitality, reflecting the values of Ramadan brotherhood, generosity, and unity.

The Iftar, the evening meal that breaks the daily fast during Ramadan, creating a unique atmosphere for meaningful engagement and reflection.

As the Holy Qur’an reminds believers, “And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct from the black thread of night, then complete the fast until sunset” (Qur’an 2:187).

During the gathering, both the host and his guests shared prayers and discussions centered on the welfare of workers, labour relations, and the collective responsibility of sustaining harmony within Oyo State’s workforce.

Speaking during the interaction, Comrade Titilola-Sodo urged journalists to begin preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections by upholding professionalism, accuracy, and fairness in their reportage.

He emphasized that credible and unbiased journalism remains vital to the survival and strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy.

“Journalists must remain the conscience of society. As we approach another election cycle, the responsibility to inform the public truthfully and objectively becomes even more important,” he said.

He also encouraged deeper collaboration within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), stressing the importance of inclusiveness, mutual respect, and stronger communication among journalists across the state.

Responding on behalf of the DMM, the Chairman, Comrade Raji Adebayo, commended Comrade Titilola-Sodo for his wisdom, intelligence and leadership in fostering peace and understanding between the state government and labour unions.

He described the Special Adviser as a dependable bridge-builder who has continued to strengthen unity among labour groups in Oyo State.

“Your commitment to dialogue and peaceful engagement has helped sustain cordial relations between the government and organized labour. You remain the right person for this important responsibility,” Adebayo said.

The DMM Chairman also appreciated the host for organizing a memorable Iftar, which participants described as both delicious and abundant, with a variety of meals, fruits, and beverages shared in the spirit of Ramadan generosity.

The gathering ended with prayers for peace, progress, and divine guidance for Oyo State and Nigeria. Participants also prayed for continued blessings throughout the sacred month, remembering the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) saying: “Whoever provides food for a fasting person to break his fast will have a reward like theirs.”

Indeed, the evening was more than Iftar, it was a moment of reflection, unity, and spiritual connection, echoing the Ramadan message that “Allah loves those who do good” (Qur’an 2:195).

The DMM expressed gratitude to their host and prayed that Allah grants everyone the grace to witness many more Ramadan in good health, peace, and prosperity.
