The Divine Mandate Team on Saturday strengthened its statewide engagement drive as it took its campaign to the Oke-Ogun Federated Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), reaffirming its resolve to build a more responsive, inclusive, and forward-looking union.
Led by its Chairmanship Candidate, Comrade Raji Adebayo, the delegation received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the Oke-Ogun leadership and members—marking another strategic stop in the team’s consultation tour ahead of the 2025 Oyo NUJ election.
In his keynote address, Adebayo described Oke-Ogun as “a backbone of grassroots journalism in Oyo State,” noting that journalists in the region remain critical to development reporting and community advocacy. He emphasized that the Divine Mandate Team stands firmly on three pillars; service, integrity, and innovation; qualities he said mirror the demands of modern journalism.
“We are here because Oke-Ogun matters.
“Your work gives voice to rural communities, influences public decision-making, and strengthens democracy.
“Our commitment is that every chapel; no matter the distance; must feel the presence and impact of a proactive and transparent NUJ leadership,” he said.
Adebayo pledged deeper collaboration between the state council and the Oke-Ogun Chapel, promising improved welfare, enhanced representation, and access to continuous professional training for journalists across the region.
Members of the Divine Mandate Team also elaborated on the group’s core agenda: Upgraded welfare and healthcare support, digital transformation of the NUJ Secretariat, regular capacity-building and newsroom innovation workshops, a stronger press freedom protection framework and unity-driven reforms to bridge chapel-to-chapel gaps
The leadership of the Oke-Ogun Federated Chapel commended the Divine Mandate Team for recognizing the value of rural journalists and for making them central in the campaign discourse. They expressed confidence in the team’s vision and unanimously endorsed all candidates running under the Divine Mandate banner.
During an interactive session, the Chapel’s Vice Chairman, Comrade Sola Ailako, highlighted key concerns including mobility challenges, resource constraints, delayed access to training opportunities, and the need for stronger logistical support from the union.
Responding, the team’s Secretary candidate, Comrade Olamide Adeniji, assured members that their concerns would be taken seriously, adding: “Our mandate is divine because it carries responsibility—the responsibility to make Oyo NUJ work for everyone. Whether in Ibadan, Oyo, Ibarapa, or Oke-Ogun, no chapel will be left behind.”
The visit to Oke-Ogun is part of the Divine Mandate Team’s ongoing statewide tour, which continues across all chapels as it builds a broad coalition of trust, unity, and shared purpose ahead of the 2025 NUJ election.
