The 4-day induction programme for Board Members of the Police Service Commission (PSC) successfully concluded today in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, with calls for unity, commitment, and strategic implementation of knowledge gained during the event.

The induction, which began on Sunday, April 27, featured a pre-induction dinner, a grand opening ceremony on Monday attended by distinguished Nigerians, and intensive paper presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police in the Commission, emphasized the significance of the collaborative spirit demonstrated during the programme. “Let us take the knowledge gained from this induction back to our respective roles and implement it towards the betterment of our Commission,” he urged.

Lakanu expressed gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and lauded the dedication of the resource persons, whose insights, he said, sparked productive discussions that will shape the future of the Commission.

He gave special recognition to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, for his generosity and support, especially for donating 18 hectares of land for a proposed Police training college. The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, CFR, who represented Akpabio and also attended in his personal capacity, was also commended for donating an educational complex in Kabo for the training of PSC staff.

Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed Mallam Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, was applauded for his presence at the opening ceremony.

The Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, echoed the need for unity, warning against the destructive nature of internal crises. “This Commission must be ready to pay the price for peace. The new Board needs unity to succeed,” he stressed.

The programme also featured insightful presentations by various Heads of Departments and Units within the Commission.

The induction concluded with a renewed pledge from members to uphold professionalism and work collectively towards improving the efficiency and impact of the PSC.
