Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a serving senior officer in the Nigerian Army, has completed the construction of solar-powered street lights along a major inter-community road in Kwara State, bringing light and security to several towns.

The project spans the stretch of road linking his hometown, Ilemona, through the neighbouring Erin-Ile community, and extends up to the Kwara State boundary with Osun State. The road serves as a vital link for commuters, traders, farmers, and residents of surrounding rural areas. Before now, the route was poorly lit and considered unsafe after dusk, particularly for motorists and pedestrians.

Colonel Yusuf, beyond his role in national security, also holds a revered traditional position. He is the Alemona of Ilemona, bearing the royal title Oba Nurudeen Alowonle Fiwadade Ilufemiloye II. Since ascending the throne, he has seamlessly combined his military discipline with royal leadership, championing development initiatives to uplift his community.

The solar-powered street light project is seen as part of his broader efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance security, and promote rural development in Kwara South. It reflects his commitment to grassroots empowerment and community service, even as he serves at the highest levels of government.

Community leaders and residents have expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a “transformational intervention” that will positively impact economic activity and improve the safety of lives and property in the area.

Speaking during a brief inspection of the project, a local elder in Erin-Ile, Chief Raimi Adekeye, praised the monarch-soldier for “not forgetting his roots,” adding that “Colonel Yusuf is setting an example for other traditional rulers and public officials on what it means to serve the people with humility and vision.”

The solar lighting initiative is expected to reduce the area’s dependence on generators, improve visibility at night, and contribute to environmental sustainability by using clean energy sources
