President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a crucial visit to Benue State today, delivered a firm and emotionally charged message to residents and leaders, pledging a decisive push to restore peace and security in the region. Addressing Governor Hyacinth Alia and other stakeholders, President Tinubu emphasized unity, courage in leadership, and an uncompromising stance against criminality.

“You must work with us so we can achieve peace together,” the President told Governor Alia and community leaders. “You have to make decisions regardless of who may hate you because of it. Even me, they hate me like hell, but I am the President today.”

In a direct appeal for solidarity, President Tinubu stated: “We must fight our enemies together, not fight ourselves.” He highlighted that public office holders were elected to deliver progress, not condolences. “We must turn this insecurity into secured economic prosperity. We’re not elected to be burying people. We are elected to give them good lives—good roads, good hospitals, and peace.”

Expressing his frustration over the lack of arrests in recent violent attacks, the President issued a clear directive to the nation’s security architecture: “It’s unfortunate that we haven’t got any arrest till now. That is not acceptable. CDS, IGP, D-G DSS—put your ears on the ground. Get those criminals apprehended.”

To tackle the root causes of insecurity in Benue and its surrounding areas, President Tinubu announced the establishment of a high-level committee. This committee will include Benue farmers, indigenes and non-indigenes, traditional rulers, retired security chiefs, himself, and the governors of Benue and Nasarawa States. The mandate is to develop lasting solutions to the security crisis and ensure sustainable peace and agricultural recovery.

“I want to assure you that there will be peace in Benue State,” the President declared. “Our farmers will return to their fields and continue to produce for the nation.”

The visit marked a turning point in the Federal Government’s engagement with the region, as President Tinubu’s remarks signaled not just resolve but a personal commitment to see Benue rise above its security challenges and reclaim its role as Nigeria’s food basket.
