The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has fired back at Senator Uche Ekwunife over an explosive allegation linking her to the late former governor of the state, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, Mrs. Soludo dismissed the rumour as “pitiable” and “laughable,” stressing that she had never in her life met the former governor, who passed away in April 2023.

“My attention has just been drawn to a post going round that Mrs. Soludo replied Ekwunife. Not at all! I am too busy with my children as schools resume. Besides, I can’t condescend to replying inanities and fabrications. An Igbo adage says that you don’t exchange words with a madman, otherwise the passersby will not know the difference,” she said.

The Anambra First Lady added:

“For the records, I never met Dr. Mbadinuju of blessed memory. NEVER! As for the other fabrications—PITIABLE and LAUGHABLE!”

The statement, personally signed by Mrs. Soludo, was dated September 10, 2025.

The controversy erupted after reports circulated that Senator Ekwunife, who has remained a formidable player in Anambra politics, allegedly made insinuations about an affair between Mrs. Soludo and the late Mbadinuju, popularly known as “Odera.”

The allegation has now escalated tensions between the Soludo camp and Senator Ekwunife’s supporters, with observers warning that the drama could further polarize the political space as preparations for the 2025 governorship race heat up.

Mbadinuju, who governed Anambra between 1999 and 2003, remains a contentious figure in the state’s political history. His name being dragged into the current political mudfight—two years after his passing—has drawn criticism from sections of the public who see the matter as both disrespectful and unnecessary.

Social media has since been awash with divided reactions. Supporters of the governor’s family condemned what they described as “cheap blackmail,” while others saw the incident as another reminder of Anambra’s ruthless political rivalries.

Despite the uproar, Dr. Mrs. Soludo insists she will not be dragged into a prolonged exchange, making clear she considers the allegation beneath her dignity.
