PDP Rescue Team Urges Buhari To Intervene In Constant Harassment of Opposition Parties By Lagos APC

President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to intervene in the alleged harassment of members of the opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by suspected members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.

The PDP Rescue House gave this advice in a statement issued and signed on its behalf by Pastor John Shuaibu and Barrister Omoyemi Gold.

They said in the statement entitled; “Appeal To Tame The Tide Of Violence Against PDP Members In Lagos State” that they were afraid that some elements in the Lagos State APC wanted to destroy the legacy of the president.

“We take notice of Your Excellency’s firm commitment to a peaceful election as conveyed in your repeated warning against violence by political actors.

“But we are afraid that certain elements, particularly in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State are doing everything to rubbish your well intentioned resolve.

“This is evident in the crude and despicable attacks on PDP members in Lagos State by thugs acting on the instruction of APC,” the statement read.

They recalled the recent attack on the PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, Funke Akindele, who they said “escaped assassination as heavily armed political thugs attacked her campaign train when she went to campaign to market women in Lagos State.”

“If these waves of violence are allowed to go unchecked, we are afraid that Your Excellency’s goal of leaving a legacy of a free, fair and transparent election will be defeated.

“It is for this reason, that we appeal to you to use your good office to checkmate this ugly incidence and ensure the safety of Nigerians- especially opposition candidates and their supporters, particularly Governorship Candidate of PDP, Dr Olajide Adediran and his Deputy Funke Akindele and PDP members in Lagos State who have become targets of violent attacks by Apc political thugs.
Should campaigns be made bloody,” the statement added.
