PDP Members Embarrass Wike, Other G-5 Governors In Ibadan Over Atiku

There was a mild drama at the ancient Mapo Hill in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, when Governor Seyi Makinde declared his intention to run for second term in office under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had asked the mammoth crowd to vote Governor Seyi Makinde and other PDP candidates during the general elections slated for February 25 and March 11, 2023, except the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

This pronouncement triggered the supporters of the PDP and loyalists of Atiku to raise their voices against Wike.

In a viral video, the supporters who thronged the venue of the declaration, did not allow Wike to complete his before shouting “Atiku, Atiku, Atiku.”

It would be recalled that the G-5 Governors, which comprises Governors Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Ifeanyi Uguwuanyi of Enugu State, led by Governor Wike, had distanced themselves from the presidential ambition of Atiku over the failure of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu to resign after the emergence of a northerner as the party’s flagbearer as he had earlier promised before the party’s primary election in May, 2022.
