Oyo NUJ Divine Mandate Team Mourns Segun Awolowo (Jnr.) ……Says His Death A Monumental National Loss

The Divine Mandate Team of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Segun Awolowo (Jnr.), describing his death as a devastating blow not only to the Awolowo family and the Nigerian Tribune but to the entire nation.
In a condolence message jointly signed by its Chairmanship candidate, Comrade Raji Adebayo, and the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Comrade Kunle Bakare, and addressed to the MD/Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Tribune, the team said that Chief Awolowo’s transition has created a painful void in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape.
The Divine Mandate Team noted that the late Awolowo—renowned lawyer, visionary public administrator and grandson of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo—lived a life distinguished by integrity, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to national development.
According to the statement, Chief Awolowo’s leadership at the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) marked a golden era of strategic reforms that repositioned Nigeria’s non-oil export sector and empowered thousands of young entrepreneurs across the country. His passion for youth development, innovation and institutional strengthening, the team said, will remain etched in the nation’s economic history.
“Chief Segun Awolowo was more than a public servant; he was a bridge-builder, a calm but resolute reformer, and an embodiment of responsibility and service to humanity,” the release stated. “His passing is a colossal loss to his immediate family, the Nigeria Tribune family, Ogun State, and the entire Nigerian nation,” he said.
The group acknowledged his exemplary character, brilliance and quiet strength—qualities they said made him a worthy torchbearer of the enduring Awolowo legacy. His ability to inspire trust across generations and his devotion to public good, they added, earned him respect far beyond the corridors of power.
“At a time when Nigeria yearns for principled leadership, Chief Awolowo’s death takes away one of the country’s most decent, patriotic and forward-thinking minds,” the Divine Mandate Team lamented.
Praying for divine comfort for the Awolowo dynasty and all those mourning the loss, the team urged the family and the Nigerian Tribune to take solace in the impactful life he lived, noting that his contributions to national progress will continue to speak for generations.
“May God grant the entire Awolowo family the strength to bear this irreparable loss. May the soul of this noble son of Nigeria rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
