An unconfirmed report reaching this medium claimed that the set of criminals that invaded St Francis Cathedral Owo, Ondo State have been arrested.

According to information, the suspects, numbering about seven men, were arrested on Thursday, and one of them was reportedly killed.

An unconfirmed report also claimed an indigene was among the arrested criminals.

Recall that gunmen invaded the church around 1:30pm on Sunday June 5, 2022 just about the time service ended, killing about 40 worshippers.

The incident has since attracted condemnation from far and near with people calling for the apprehension of the killers and urging the government to tighten security around the nation.

However, the National Security Council (NSC), on Thursday, revealed that the Islamic State, West African Province (ISWAP) masterminded the deadly attack on the church.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this to State House correspondents, shortly after the over three-hour council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja on Thursday.

Aregbesola, who spoke in the company of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, said security agencies are closing in on the perpetrators through their traces.
