Outrage Trails Decision To Strip Senegal Of AFCON Title, Mané Speaks Out

There is growing anger across African football following the decision to strip the Senegal national football team of their Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to the Morocco national football team.
The development has triggered strong reactions from fans and stakeholders, with Senegal forward Sadio Mané openly criticising the situation.
In a statement, Mané said the incident raises serious concerns about how decisions are taken in African football.
“What happened has gone too far. This is not the football we fight for, not the Africa we believe in,” he said.
He expressed concern that actions taken off the pitch are beginning to overshadow performances on it.
“There is too much corruption in our game, and it’s killing the passion of millions of fans across the continent. Players give everything on the pitch, but decisions off it are deciding matches and trophies,” he added.
The former African Footballer of the Year said the issue goes beyond Senegal, describing it as a broader problem affecting the game across the continent.
“I’m deeply disappointed not just for Senegal, but for African football as a whole. We deserve better. The fans deserve fairness, transparency, and respect,” he said.
The decision has also put the spotlight on the Confederation of African Football, with calls for greater clarity over how the outcome was reached.
Observers say the controversy could impact confidence in the Africa Cup of Nations if the issues raised are not addressed.
